I am back in the mountains of New Mexico as I prepare for the New Year’s retreat coming up in a few days. It’s nice winter weather, and I am enjoying it already, after today the weather is forecast to become prettier and prettier up to, and through the retreat. Sunny and 50+ degrees during the days, and around 30 degrees at night. The weather affects what I do and how I prepare for the retreat. (i.e. logistics, transportation, firewood, heat, bedding, communication about the weather, etc.) We are planning a fire walk one evening if the weather conditions are favorable (no wind). If you have not done one of these they are something to look forward to. Fire is a powerful and wonderful element. Most people do not have much of a relationship with it. With a fire walk we teach you how to form an intimate relationship with fire. It is not taken lightly, and consequently fire helps humans transmute fear. Fear is cold, fire is hot. We will ask the fire to help move us along in 2009, and help us move through anything blocking our purpose on this journey. We will ask the fire to do this gently with light, as well as some heat. There will be much spirit moving when we walk on the transmuting coals of fire. There is no pressure to have to walk on fire, it is of one’s own free will and choice, just observing the process will do wonders for you.

On an unrelated note, the photo on the BLOG tab got my attention this morning, and I thought I should tell you about it. It is a picture of me standing in the Jordan River after dunking myself in a few years ago. I’m sure this is more meaningful to me than it is to you, nevertheless I thought I would mention it this morning. The Jordan River, appearing very ordinary and small for a river, spoke to me very strongly several years ago. So, I visited it and got wet. If you notice the rest of the photo’s on the home page you will see other places that have held spiritual importance for me over the years. I will talk about them more if asked to do so. Have a good day, the sun is up here and it is time for me to get to work. Love, David

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Whether it’s Christmas, or Thanksgiving, this time of the year always brings up just how much I have to be grateful for. No matter what is going on with the economy, politics, or the weather - I am very fortunate to live in the ole’ U.S. of A, and I am very grateful for all of the comforts, luxuries, and people in my life. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Love, David

This arctic front that has been moving down and through the Western U.S. has been a big one, and it’s continuing to express itself! I keep reminding myself to accept and embrace it! We need lot’s of consistent, deep, thorough moisture throughout the West - whether that is in Southern California, or the Sandia mountains of New Mexico (or anywhere in between). I accept it, I encourage it, and I give gratitude back to Mother Nature, and this time of the Winter Solstice. It’s the Capricorn time of year, even though I personally favor the heat of the sun and the warmer months. Life is a contradiction, right?

Happy Holidays to you, if I don’t get back to the blog before Christmas!

I will be heading out to NM for the New Year’s Retreat in a few days. I am excited to get back out there. My next building project after the holidays will be to start on a greenhouse. I want to be able to grow food 365 days of the year, and a greenhouse will ensure that. I am doing a lot of work right now preparing myself for 2009, and the times a head, I encourage you to do the same. Bye for now. LOVE, David

After a very fruitful few days here in NM, I head back to the confines of LA. Don’t get me wrong, I have really enjoyed living in this city. It works for me, and more accurately it has worked for me for most of the last 20 years. Now, however, I am starting to feel the pulls from the country, living off the land, being one with the land and nature. Spirit is painting a distinct picture showing me the way. I know my time, my days, my stay in LA is lessening. I’m ok with that. As I prep my property for more year round residency, I start to envision the community energy that will be forming here. Likewise people are gathering at my sister’s property close by. Many are feeling the call to leave the cities, many are choosing that outcome. As I prepare to board my plane back to LA, I find it harder to go. I take note - as the signs get stronger. I will speak to you next time from the City of Angels. Love, David

I am currently in the mountains of New Mexico @ my retreat property. It is a windy “wintery” day. I was up early (4am) this morning as I found myself being nudged creatively to continue writing. I like getting up early, it is the most peaceful time of day for me. I have been listening to the strong winds roaring through the pine trees announcing the arrival of another front of weather. I am glad it is here because my body has been aching for two days telling me moisture was on the way. I notice more pronounced physical sensations in my body about weather patterns when I am in NM. I suspect this is a result of the altitude and, even more so, my conection with the land, nature, and the elements here. They communicate very strongly with me! I have the same senses in LA, however the weather patterns require far less winter preparation. That’s not to say LA doesn’t have it’s own set of sensory sharpeners, because it does. They just generally require fewer clothes. Anyway…I am glad to be experiencing the winter conditions, they are helping me shift into a deeper relationship with the seasons suiting my Capricorn nature with winter. A nice toasty fire does amazing things for the writer, no need to rush outside at the break of dawn. As I look out the window at the rising sun it lures me outside - hum - maybe itis time for a little break? Have a great day! Love, David

4 years from now…12-12-12

First of all before I move into the future I want to say I am very excited to have this blog up and functioning! It has been born. Much helpful information will be written here as well in the adjoining Library. The Library will contain excerpts from Healer Training classes, Retreats, and other healing groups. Within this Library will be text, audio, and eventually video files. My intention is to provide more information about healing to those who are seeking it. There are many requests from too many places for me to travel to, so I will be figuring out ways to allow people to tune in and participate through this website. Much of the information will be free to you, some of it eventually will have some nominal cost (exchange). Anyway…onward we go!

Moving forward to 12-12-12. Below is a piece I wrote recently about this future time. It is a fairly strong piece and I am sharing it because it might just get you thinking. Enjoy!

A Future Time
There is a time for reluctance, doubt, and confusion, and then there is a time for change. Change is a catalyst that happens more through force than allowance when it comes to human experience. All on planet earth are in a cycle of change now. This is no longer a time for reluctance, doubt, and confusion – that was the last forty years. It is time for us to become clear about our purpose and responsibility as earth residents. We are not the sole important creatures inhabiting this sphere of reality. We are simply part of the whole no matter how smart, no matter how technologically advanced we are. We are no better than the ant, the squirrel, or the ragweed. I believe these next 3-4 years into the next 30 are going to contain some of the most intensely challenging lessons for human reality. I believe these challenges will occur on physical, emotional, mental, and most of all spiritual levels. Meaning we will be challenged to look beyond our habitual expectation around who and what we are. I believe the illusions that we have been seduced by will have to be faced. There is little doubt that Mother Nature is demanding our attention, there is no doubt we have to face truths about money, government, and physical security. We have a lot to look at and deal with. How we approach these concerns will determine our experience. Do we think others can figure out the problems for us and fix them with bail out programs? Or is it something we as individuals have to deal with within ourselves? What is the truth about this time we are in? I am willing to sound negative to get your attention. I am willing to preach to the choir to get you to prepare and do the work. I believe turbulence is necessary to blast through the illusion we have been living under. I have found when I communicate this way people pull back; you want it to be easy, as creatures of habit you do not like facing the unknown. Within the negative sounding imagery of the future I am projecting I propose to you. Does this time offer us the biggest spiritual opportunity known in our lifetime? Can we take all the resources, technology, and spiritual hunger and come together for the good of all? How willing are we to bridge across countries and cultures to unite for this good?

We are surfing a tremendous wave of hope and inspiration with the recent election of Barack Obama. I believe in this man and pray for the change he envisions. He cannot do it alone. He has rallied the people like few leaders from the past have done. I hope he becomes the cornerstone to anchor the change needed here on planet earth. For him to be successful as a leader all of us will have to stay involved in the change we desire. Time will reveal the outcome. So, where is it all headed? Is it possible to look into the future to prepare for what needs to be done?

Writing about the future is the hardest thing I have tried to do. It forces me to take  risks that I do not commonly take. It forces me to take a stand with my intuition, out in the open, which exposes me to controversy. It has elements of “crying wolf” in it. It seems all that people want to know about the future is; everything is going to be okay. No one wants the scenario of intensity, negativity, or the unknown around change. I am not a doom and gloom prognosticator. I do not see myself as being negative, but as I look into the future I sense upheaval with this change. I sense tremendous need for adaptability and an even bigger need for preparation. It pushes me to write about this.

How do I liberate the part of me that is the messenger? The writer? The healer? How do I communicate all that I need to communicate in an un-tethered way? Do I write with an anticipation of the reader reacting uncomfortably, or do I write from the place of what I sense to be coming? Do I keep the message on a metaphoric spiritual plane of reality with minimization of the physical consequences, or do I paint the full picture of all experiential realities?  I do believe so much of what is coming is the spiritual tipping point for known human reality. I believe much of what we ultimately experience will be determined by our collective human choices. The place where I have the greatest reservation is how much will we come together with all people to create a place of peace here on the earth? I do not see humanity left with the choice to continue as before. We have evolved too far for this reality to exist anymore. The illusions we live under are killing us as a species. I believe the polar bear stands a bigger chance of survival than we do if we stay the same. Wow! What a statement? Do I become a “shock writer” to make my point?

Human’s are gifted beyond the perceptions of our imagination. We play down to the lowest reality held by the largest majority. We live down to the distraction of our lowest common needs, and the truth is we live with very little accountability regarding getting our needs met. We have become so accustomed to comfort that we are “fat and happy” and that is about it. I see us greatly lacking in gratitude and appreciation for all that our lives afford us. There is very little spiritual exchange with the universe, and more importantly the mother earth for supporting us. This is the major reckoning that I see coming. It is the way we focus on all things external to us. This focus is coming from inside of us. There is no more room for hatred and war. We have become too powerful to fight these wars. There is no more room for self as the “golden calf”. The point of evolution is upon us, because things have turned to revolution with all things human. I repeat we have the potential within us to do this – to open our hearts as spiritual beings having a conscious experience known as human. We have shown glimpses of our potential to rally together now what do we choose to do with this potential?

Today

Today is another day of course, this morning is another morning much like the others for the last few months. Up @ 3am feeling the urgency of creativity pulsing through my veins, nerves, body, brain, bed, and house. If Buffy were around she would be up with me, she is with me, she is helping with the push! OK. Write.

Recapping the HT-3 weekend briefly. It was deep, intense, fun, and at times hard to sit through. Hard because it was not a comfortable experience. Hard because groups push individuals into discomfort. Fun because agreement to learn and grow can be just that - FUN! I had a good time, I’ll speak for myself. I am intending on getting the blog working today so, you, the reader can post comments. Stay tuned, come back later so you can start to participate with me in this communication to provide helpful resource for others.

Below is some recent writing about the healing properties of writing. Enjoy!

Writing Is Healing

Writing gives you a chance to hear into your feelings, and to think about them. It provides you an opportunity to feel them in a new time, and in a new way. Writing also gives you time to think about your thoughts and the way you want to put them together to express yourself. Writing is a meditation around your ability as a communicator. It is a practice that requires discipline as well as commitment. It creates space for you to step back, contemplate, read, and process your thoughts and feelings. I always say it is a cheap form of therapy. Writing is a powerful tool for healing – healing yourself and others. I believe this power is one of the reasons people have so much resistance to writing. What “if” you influenced one person, in a positive way, with your writing? What “if” you influenced millions of people with your writing? What “if” you trusted yourself to express beyond your ability to know the outcome of the message the universe was giving you? Would you be a prophet then? Even more reason for resistance.

Let’s stop here before we go to far into the big picture, and let’  s back up to you. Let us take the singular look into the mirror and see how writing can benefit you on the journey of where you are in your life. The more you share with yourself, the more universal your understanding of you becomes. The deeper you go into the exposure of your experience the more others can relate to your writing. But more importantly – early on in your writing - the deeper you go into your experience, the more you open, the more you share – the more you will see into the mirror of yourself. The more intimacy you will have with you. Now, this is not to say all writing needs to be deep and serious. Humor is one of the great art forms available to the writer, as well there are many ways of expressing yourself and getting your point across.

But “what if”…what if you expressed yourself enough to get beyond all known resistance and limitation in your way of feeling and thinking about yourself. What if you trusted yourself to be the messenger to you? What if you felt, listened, and wrote to your hearts content. What if you became content in your life? What if you became content with you? How much better of a place would the world become? And from this place could you be the mustard seed for others? Could you start to reach deeper into the universal pool of consciousness and could you touch others with the message the universe has been whispering in your ear for some time now? “Let’s go. It is time for you to trust me. Your lessons of trust with yourself have been fulfilled. Let’s go.”

Truthfully the universe may not whisper, in some cases it shouts. I like the universe to speak gently to me. Most of the time I listen and take the appropriate action. I am in a time of careful listening and action now. The writing is taking a personality of it’s own. It has a very clear message in it for me. As I am digesting this information I have been artistically looking for the appropriate channels to communicate this message to you. And so the story begins…

Healer Training - Level 3 class

I am preparing, as I have been all week, for the healer training - level 3 class this weekend. As I tune in to the energy of this group I am sensing much excitement and anticipation from the group, as well as me, about what is going to go on with this gathering. I am really looking forward to teaching the class. I enjoy helping people refine their intuition and sensitivity to the group experience. It is such a powerful arena!

Being a teacher comes with it’s own set of responsibilities and lessons, and being a teacher of spiritual material even heightens the responsibility and lesson. I am continually amazed at the leaps I see people take as we move through this material. Stay tuned, and we’ll get some reports back to you from people about how the experience was for them in a few days….love, David

December ‘08 Newsletter excerpt

Welcome back! This has been a busy time for me and I have realized a few things about feeling caught up, or feeling behind schedule. I have found if there is something I am putting off, or not dealing with 100%, it leaves me with a feeling of being behind. It creates tension within me. I do not like this feeling because it takes me out of the moment. Most of what has been pushing me has been my writing, and the way the universe is pushing me to get it done! I do not know if you are feeling into what I am saying here, but some of you will because I suspect the universe is doing this with you right now too. It is time to get things done, time to deal with things, and time to prepare yourself. For what I don’t completely know, maybe winter?

I’ve been busy, and I’m being pushed to deal with things and get things done, and I am preparing. How about you? Are you feeling the instinctive need to prepare? But you do not fully know for what? I would say this is in the air. Start to take the actions necessary to feel prepared. If that means confronting your issues around money, health, security, food, and even fun, then do it! You will sleep better, and it will give you a feeling of being caught up, which is nice. If you have been neglecting your spiritual connection, if you have been burying your intuition about these subjects read on and review the “Events” page there maybe something on my schedule that will get you going. Check it out, and I hope to see, or hear from you soon.

Think about this time here on planet earth. Is it business as usual? Let me say right here that I am not suggesting this is the end the world. I believe we are at a spiritual crossroads. I believe we are facing the greatest spiritual opportunity to wake up and take responsibility for many years of unconsciousness. I do not believe we can continue as we have. Fortunately “change” has become a chosen political theme. It seems most of us are in agreement that we have to become more conscious of our behaviors as human beings. We have to become more conscious of how we affect all the other life forms that we co-mingle with here on the earth. It is not business as usual. It is good for us to go through some difficulty and hardship. I have found this is the one way, and sometimes the only way for human’s to rally together and harmonize. We don’t learn as much in the easy times. We become fat and lazy (if you are not this way disregard these comments,  sometimes we end up preaching to the choir).

But think about it. What are you willing to change about yourself to make this world a better place? What will you contribute to the bailout package (besides tax money)? Are you willing to scale down your life, your comforts, your desserts for the good of the planet, for the good of your neighbors, and for the good of yourself? Think about these times. Can you increase your faith that everything is ok in your world because you are contributing to the good of all things? Can you connect to the pulse of spiritual consciousness on planet earth right now? You may have to sift through lots of emotion to get to the frequency of opportunity afforded to each of us at this time. You chose to be here. What is your role? What role do you play in the evolution of the human being and all life forms here with us? Do you contribute to healing of the planet by the way you think and feel, and by the way you treat yourself? Maybe not even as much the way you treat your children, or your pets - BUT - the way you are treating yourself in their presence! How much love can you chose to give to yourself? How much love and peace can your garden grow? World peace starts with you. Healing the planet starts with you. Healing the atmosphere, the ozone layer, the oceans, and the land starts with you. You do not have to go far to do this. Start inside of yourself. Check in. Can you grow love for you? Can you spread this throughout your living room, throughout your house, your yard, and into your neighborhood? That is how you heal the world. You start with you, and that is the hummingbird hint for today. See you soon.
Love, David

Building relationship with the earth

I have been asked a lot of questions recently about how to compost, and below is a reply to some of the requests. I believe the better your relationship with the earth, the more secure you will feel at ALL times. Composting is an excellent way to starting learning the language of the earth, the soil, and mother nature. Give it a read, you might enjoy it!
COMPOST! Recycling, restoring, reusing, re-infusing, re-energizing, composting. It’s good technology, it’s good fertilizer, it’s good for the soil, it’s good for you. Just ask Katrina, I’ve seen her sample a bit of it. A few facts about well groomed compost. It smells sweet, it does not rot. If you smell your compost while it is breaking down, it is rotting. Not good! If it rots - gets too hot - the organic matter will lose it’s life force.

I can’t speak too much for the plastic bins some of you are using. I think they are appropriate for the city, but they are limited in the type of work they can do for you - especially if you have a lot of stuff to compost - like my place in NM! Nevertheless, they are a great way to start your relationship and/or deepen your relationship w/ the soil, your plants, and ultimately your food.

In most locations I build my compost piles right on the soil. I want the earth to work with the compost. I set it up as an elemental process where I am balancing earth, air, fire, and water energies. However, I have been planning on trying a bin for my place here in LA. I’ll keep you posted on my experience with it.

Earth - the earth is used as the primary building block, with the composting process you are setting out to bring more life force into the soil you are working with. Built properly your compost will become this super-energizing soil that will balance and awaken any other soil it comes into contact with. Most soil (like people) have been over worked, misused, abused, and simply not taken care of. Soil responds to consciousness just like people, animals, and plants do. Therefore, when you start to reclaim nutrients to give to the soil it responds to this nurturance, and everything it comes into contact with feels this and responds too. All the way up the food chain to you! In a bin you will need to add some soil with the matter you are composting, it’s best if you get some from your garden, or flower beds. I’m sure the bin has some directions with it. The City of Los Angeles sells plastic bins very reasonably for this purpose.

Air - you need the proper amount of aerobic activity for the micro-organisms to do their work. If there is not enough air the compost will get too hot and literally burn up. Again the signal is: if you smell it, it is too hot. To invite in the air you need roughage - straw, leaves, twigs, weed stems, dead plants, cuttings, etc. Let these stems stick out of the edges to bring in the air. In a bin you would need the proper ventilation as well as the proper amount of roughage, consequently they have holes and spaces setup to let in air. Also many bins are round and are designed to be turned letting in air with the movement.

Fire - the green vegetable cuttings, grass, weeds, and manure (horse, goat, chicken, etc) will provide the fire. The energy in these substances will heat up when placed together. When you place them together you are working towards an anaerobic condition, the key is to have the right amount of heat, but not too much! The pile needs to heat up just enough to warm, this expedites the composting process. However, you don’t want it to get too hot. If you smell it, then it needs air. You can add more roughage, or work it to let in more air. In the case of a bin you would turn it, or open it up to let in air to cool it off. Generally with circular bins you turn them every so many days, it’s pretty simple. A layer of soil also works to build fire by cutting out the air. It’s kind of like baking the perfect cake!

Water - depending on all the factors above, you can add water to actually build more heat. Not cool it down. It doesn’t work in the way you would think about water putting out the fire. With aerobic and anaerobic conditions water ends up providing more heat to the composting process. In a bin you may not need to add water at all. With a compost pile built on the earth water plays a more important role in the composting process. When I have a lot of roughage - mainly in the Fall because of annual crops dying after their one season of activity - then I will add water to balance out the air. Also to help heat the pile up even more layers of dirt are added to provide a seal to the pile, this is very necessary in NM to help hold in moisture. With bins you probably will not need to add any water, it will be supplied more in the green material.

As it is all working and doing it’s thing you don’t have to do much with the compost piles built on the earth. Typically a pile will break things down in a couple of months, and be ready to feed plants of all kinds from trees to flowers to garden vegetables. Contrary to popular belief you do not have to turn a pile if it is built properly, it breaks down just fine.

Bins provide even faster results because you are dealing with a smaller amount of material, and you are assisting with more maintenance as you turn the bin. As you remove the compost after it is broken down look for any clumps stuck together or any mold. If you see this you will know on the next batch you need more air, and less heat. Nevertheless, the soil will still be usable, mother earth will work with you.

Overall, experience is the best teacher. The elements are pretty forgiving if you are trying to do your best. Just a little nurturance can yield much valuable soil to grow things with, and you will be making it easier on mother earth and the land fills. So, have a great time composting, and who knows eventually you may want to purchase a bucket of earthworms to help you in your recycling process. let me know if you have more questions. Love, David
